Australia Skilled Regional Provisional Visa (Subclass 489) Via Registered Migration Agents

Overview

The Skilled-Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 489) is for skilled workers and their families to live, work and study in specified regional areas in Australia for four years.

Applicants under this category must live for 2 years and work for at least 12 months in a Specified Region or designated area of Australia. This is a good option for those who do not score 60 points individually on Australian Immigration Points Test.

There are two pathways for this visa:

  • The Invited Pathway
  • The Extended Stay Pathway – you must hold a provisional visa in subclass 475, 487, 495 or 496.

Invited Pathway:

You might be eligible to apply for this visa if invited and you are either:

  • Nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency, or
  • Sponsored by an eligible relative living in a Designated area of Australia.

Extended Stay Pathway:

You might be eligible to apply for this visa:

  • You hold a provisional visa in subclass 475, 487, 495 or 496.
  • You would be granted an extension for 48 months from the date of your first provisional visa granted date.

Subclass 190/489 are all visa programs for skilled and intending migrants. Subclass 190 is skilled nominated – permanent visa. And subclass 489 is a skilled regional – provisional visa. All the three subclass are options to obtain PR status in Australia as a general skilled migrant. Visa subclass is selected in accordance with the skills, requirements, and eligibility.

For 190/489, an applicant has to qualify the point-based test. Post that, submit an expression of interest and upon receiving an invitation, apply to any of the above points based subclasses.

The points in these subclasses are calculated for factors like age, English language competency, overseas employment in nominated skilled occupation, education qualifications at the time of invitation, Australian education, nomination/sponsorship, etc.

There’s more to the General Skilled Migration Program. You can contact us to get detailed information on the same.

EOI – To be able to apply for this visa, you must first submit an expression of interest and then be invited through SkillSelect fortnight selections that happen every second and 4th Saturday of every month for relative sponsored visa. For the applications under state regional sponsorship, the invitation of the EOIs will happen if a successful state nomination is received. If you receive an invitation, you will have 60 days to apply online for the visa. During that time, you cannot change the information or claim additional points on your expression of interest.
